Mega yacht marina proposed for Rijeka
Aug 27th, 2008 | Category:Croatia travel and places to visitA new mega yacht marina proposal for Rijeka has captured the interest of more than 20 international companies interested in spear-heading the development, as reported in one of Croatia’s leading newspapers, Jutarni List, last week.
The 20 as yet unamed companies have each sent a letter of intent to the Port of Rijeka Authority expressing their interest in the potential development of approximately 170,000 sq. m. The proposed marina will complement the marina in Punat bay on Krk Island, some 55 kilometres away.
If the project is given the go-ahead, it is envisaged that this would be the single biggest investment in Rijeka, valued at over 300 milion Euros, and would completely change Rijeka’s character as a city which is currently dominated by its cargo and transit port. The development area in question has already been earmarked as a zone for a marina, together with associated infrastructure such as hotels, new business premises and other commercial and urban facilities.
Director of Rijeka’s Port Authority, Bojan Hlaca, emphasised that the interested parties are all serious and prominent investors from around the world who have extensive experience of this type of development internationally. He went on to say:
“For the moment we cannot name the interested parties, as the investors have specifically requested confidentiality for the time being. The level of interest however confirms that the project has been well thought out and that this is a good long term investment. As far as we are concerned, we are ready to issue a formal invitation to tender.”
