About us - our own experience of buying property in Croatia

Hi, my name is Aleksandra. 

Croatian by birth, I have lived in the UK for most of my life. The idea for Croatian Villas For Sale  came after my own experience of looking for a property in Croatia a few years ago. Despite Croatian being my mother tongue, and the advantage of having parents, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends throughout Croatia to help me out and point me in the right direction, I encountered all sorts of difficulties in my search for the villa that I wanted.   

The problem? I realised that I had become used to the property market and its' infrastructure here in the UK, and had forgotten how different the Croatian property market is. Whilst UK estate agents are often the butt of many jokes (and complaints - sorry guys!), the property market here is highly regulated compared to that in Croatia. As I searched for my own property in Croatia, I found that it was a struggle to get the information I needed through the web, email, post or phone.  As a result, I wasn't prepared enough on my trips abroad. I also found that the properties I did inspect weren't presented in the way I am used to seeing them here in the UK, which made my numerous trips to find a property in Croatia that much more of an unknown quantity.  

The impetus to start Croatian Villas For Sale came after a particularly bad experience, when I flew over to Croatia for a weekend to have a look at what I thought was the right villa for me, in just the right price bracket, and located in the same village that my parents have their holiday home in. I was informed on my arrival that the estate agent I had been dealing with by telephone had now bought the property himself, and was prepared to sell it to me for a price some 50% higher than I had first been given. I believe he still owns the property and no-one seems to want to buy it from him!  

And so I set-up this website. Although there are a vast number of resources on the web for buying property abroad, we have designed our services specifically for purchasers looking for property from a distance. From my own experience I know that this will involve making numerous decisions by phone and email. Any time travelling on property inspection trips needs to be spent wisely and not wasted on properties that have been mis-represented. Prospective purchasers should benefit from having the maximum amount of information available up-front and the confidence that there will be no surprises when they actually get to see a property. 

All the Croatian properties advertised here have been researched by us, and we are more than happy to provide any further information you may need. Our services are for the buyer looking to buy property in Croatia, not the seller, and we work only with very reputable Croatian property estate agents, with whom we have developed a good working relationship. Properties on this site are described room by room just as they would be at your local estate agent, with extra advice on location and local infrastructure because we know you can't just drive by and say "I know that road!".

Our focus initially is on the Kvarner Gulf region, in particular the Island of Krk, where I spent most of my summer holidays as a child, and so not only love the area but also know it well.
