The Economy Institute of Zagreb recently published a report on the forecast benefits to Croatia of joining the EU. Published over the summer, the report finds that the likely effect of Croatia joining the EU will be an increase in the overall standard of living coming from higher salaries and reduced unemployment. Overall, EU membership is forecast to provide a boost to major industries, especially trade and tourism. In particular, the report states:

Croatians will earn more and spend more, but food, clothing, groceries and housing will not become more expensive, the study finds. However, summer homes on the coast are an exception. Their prices are expected to increase as the real estate market is liberalised.
