Croatia wines win eight gold medal awards

Posted in: Emigrate to and live in Croatia

Croatia wines have been awarded no less than eight gold medals at the Decanter World Wine Awards for 2009, the biggest competition of its kind. A total of 10,285 wines were entered into the competition representing over 2,000 companies worldwide, so the Croatian wine result is one to be proud of.

The UK’s Daily Telegraph which reports on the awards stated that Croatia has “trumped the achievement of many far larger, better-known wine producers” which included wines from the US, New Zealand and Portugal.

Whilst both red and white Croatian wines were acknowledged for their excellence, it was the white dessert wines that really captured the judges attention. Adam Lechemere, editor of Decanter.com, said: “This really puts Croatia on the map. They are reasserting their mastery of dessert wines. And if you are a fan of sweet white wines, you would be a fool to miss them. Croatia really can now take its place as a serious player in the wine world.”

The full list of gold medal winning wines can be found at Decanter.com and include the following Croatian wines:
